I watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" just now. I loved it! It even made me want to go to church (specifically to a Latin rite mass, since I've never been, and my Nana and Aunt Helen say good things...), and my heart was very much warmed. Nia Vardalos is so cute! I definitely recommend this to anyone who has a big ethnic family. Watch it with all of them!

My mother doesn't read my journal here. I bet she'd be a little confused by the online quiz results and selfconsciously hypey autoadverts if she did so I spent the day with her in person. We had a fun day, she and I and my whole fam had a nice outing in the northern direction a bit and then a barbeque and family movie. Today was definitely the day for a barbeque.

Today was also notable because:
-I discovered a new flavor of Sabra brand hummus. It's a lemon flavor, and I'm undecided as to whether I like it or not.
-The monarch of Samoa died and a republic is going to be instituted there. Here's hoping that goes well Samoa!

Workers of the world, exhale for a moment the sorrows of your chains, and inhale the pride of your craft, the satisfaction of what you with your body have brought on the green earth to be.

Subject:Poetry Reading: This Friday!
Security:Public

Do you like poetry? Do you, like most residents, realize that there's very little to do in Rockland on weekends? Fret no more, for your friendly neighborhood Lawrence has the solution. I will be reading new and selected recent poems at the Nyack Center this friday. Local youth group The Backdoor Cafe is throwing a follow up to their successful "Diverse Night", which also featured a reading by yours truly. The event starts at 7 PM, and the precise schedule is To-Be-Announced. I will likely be giving short readings throughout the night, so don't worry about missing an early or late reading. I'll also have my selection of broadsides available for sale throughout the event. Also on the bill for Friday is frequent collaborator Nick, who will be presenting a selection of video work. The Nyack Center is located in the big white former church on Broadway and Depew in Nyack, New York, one turn away from scenic Route 59 East. Door price is $4, but feel free to give generously to support the hardworking local youth at The Backdoor Cafe, poetry and the arts, and most importantly your ever loving brown eyed Lawrence.

RIP - Kurt Vonnegut

I'll save the attempts at ironic wit for someone else. For some reason this makes me more frustrated than sad. When my mom told me (she was watching the news as I woke up) I just said "Damnit" over and over again.

James Madison - The emo president.

Maybe he was a little short, a little moody, a little sickly, but the man had a mind like a steel trap -- all the better for remembering anniversaries or your favorite pizza toppings or what song was playing the moment you first met. He was sensitive and brilliant, and you guys could have stayed up 'til 4 am just talking and talking and talking and never once gotten bored. Even better, he was totally laid back in his relationship -- his wife Dolley was the number one party girl of her time, and he totally let her be herself even though he was more into, well, politics. He was one of those stealth hotties -- the kind where first you're like "Madison? Yeah, he's cool. He's super interesting." Then eventually you're like, "I love that guy. He's my best friend." And then, one day you wake up and you love him to the depths of your soul and can't live without him.

Which friends would you be battling for Madsy's affections? Send them this quiz and find out.

24% of the people who took this quiz got the same evaluation.

I'm a Talent!

You're a risk-taker, and you follow your passions. You're determined to take on the world and succeed on your own terms. Whether in the arts, science, engineering, business, or politics, you fearlessly express your own vision of the world. You're not afraid of a fight, and you're not afraid to bet your future on your own abilities. If you find a job boring or stifling, you're already preparing your resume. You believe in doing what you love, and you're not willing to settle for an ordinary life.

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more artistic mind than engineering mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are intellectual (93%), romantic (71%), religious (60%), horny (58%).

Stereotypes
Emo Kid89%
Punk Rock87%
White Trash55%

Life Experience
Sex38%
Substances3%
Travel28%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 94% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Upper Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 77% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
By the way, your hottness rank is 57%, hotter than 82% of other test takers.
